The whole concept of sustainable communities for the future is to develop places of soul. At the moment in our towns and especially the RDP townships, we can not expect healthy human beings to emerge from these places. So we have done a lot with adding Zone 5 elements and corridors throughout development, what is still needed is now where the human hand works in unison with nature and creates something ‘higher’.

We want to include a lot of art, land art throughout the township and even propose that we take out about 20 houses dispersed throughout the town, that will have an art feature, or a water feature. These will be partly done through community art projects, where interested youth become apprentices to a variety of artists and then create those spaces. We should also include in this an outreach into the already established township, where there are empty plots, so as to avoid as much as possible feelings of jealousy.

We will also want to work creatively with some of the water run-off from rain water tanks. Space for this can again be part of the plots above that are re-assigned. They will also form traffic calming areas, that will be so important. We want those streets to be areas where people walk and play in peace and not taxis screaming down them. We will also create some of those areas as water infiltration areas, to reduce storm-water velocity during heavy thunderstorms.
