Efficient Methods

With modern manufacturing technologies and processes, efficient methods and advances in material production, Midgard Green Carpentry provides the art of quality woodwork which is sustainable and environmentally friendly.

We feel that woodworking can be made environmentally friendly in just a few simple ways. The resources provided by the lumber and construction materials suppliers we use are carefully managed and also improve the quality of materials produced. Good hardwood construction materials last for generations when well-constructed and installed. We can deliver these benefits to our customers while minimising environmental impact.

Although wood is a renewable resource, there are several ways in which we can improve our processes and still deliver exceptional quality handiwork. There are three primary things we can consider: Responsibly Farmed Hardwoods, Recycled Materials, and Formaldehyde-free Materials.

Responsibly Grown Woods – Harvesting processes that both ensure efficient use of the cut lumber while providing for rapid regrowth and reforestation are common techniques to minimize environmental impact. We ensure that all our timber is supplied by lumber manufacturers who source from responsibly grown woods.

Recycled Materials – There are now many different types of composite building materials – some of which contain recycled or reclaimed materials from other processes. By using these materials we can reduce our waste and improve the production yield for the volume of wood and by products produced.

Core Materials that are Formaldehyde Free –Composite materials manufactured under heat and pressure, have sometimes contained Formaldehyde that is used in the manufacturing processes. Technical advances in manufacturing have now allowed producers of composite materials to deliver good quality building products that don’t use Formaldehyde. If you are interested in using these chemical free products please do not hesitate to ask.

These three simple practices make a big environmental difference when applied to your project.

Trees are a forever renewing resource

All our wood is FSC certified which means that it is managed responsibly.  Also being FSC certified means that the rainforest is not being cut down to make our fitted furniture.
